The Under 10 (10-U) Age Group consists of players who are under the age of 10 years old (but older than 7 years old) as of January 1st of the Fall Soccer Season (Note: These players will be in the 10-U Age Group for both the Fall then Spring Seasons). The 10-U teams are co-ed.
10-U teams practice twice a week (Either Monday/ Wednesday or Tuesday/ Thursday) and play games on Friday Evening and/or Saturday morning.
Practice time and day will be determined by the coach and is subject to field availability. These practices usually last between 45 minutes to an hour and are the best way for teams to learn to work together and improve upon their skills.
All coaches in AYSO are volunteers (as are referees and anyone else involved) and coaches schedule their practices at a convenient time for their schedule. It is always helpful to have a team parent or assistant coach step up from the parents to help out with things on the team.
Games are played in a 7 vs. 7 format. 10-U is the first AYSO age group in which Keepers (goalies) are used. There must be a referee on the field and the coaches will remain on the side-lines. 10-U is also the first age group in which off-sides rules are enforced . All other FIFA laws are enforced as well. Substitution of players will only be allowed at quarters unless there is an injury to a player. You may substitute a player but he or she will not be allowed to return to play until quarter or half is called. Playing time is 25 min halves 12 1/2 min quarters.
10-U players will use a Size 4 soccer ball.
