Coaches

As a 100% Volunteer Organization, all AYSO Coaches are Volunteers!

For the last twenty years, AYSO Region 800 in Grants, NM has thrived because dedicated parents, grandparents, brothers/ sisters, uncles/aunts, guardians, cousins have volunteered to coach their younger family member or friend. WE SIMPLY CANNOT OPERATE without volunteer coaches.

Here is a description of what a coach does: COACH DESCRIPTION

But I don't know anything about soccer? How can I volunteer?

AYSO has hundreds of videos, classes, manuals, and other resources that we make available to coaches. And the most valuable resource... other parent coaches that have been doing it for years.

Every year, we have an orientation class for parents interested in coaching. We provide materials to help you run practice, show you how to find and run drills at practice, and finally what kinds of things are age appropriate for each age group. It does take a little time, but your child will never forget it... and neither will the other children on your team.

Okay, so I'll try to coach.... what now?

There are several steps to this process... but we really do try to make this easy:

To Sign up to be a Coach...

1. Go into the Region 800 web page and sign up as a volunteer  and login with the same information that you used to sign up your child for soccer. Once you're in, the first page should have an option to "Apply as a new adult (or youth) volunteer," and complete that volunteer application. (You must e-sign the document to complete the process.)

2. You're almost done. If your were a registered volunteer in eAYSO  look up your AYSO ID Number** please double check that your AYSO id number on the AYSO800 page are the same as your eAYSO number.(**In some cases, a volunteer must go through the approval process before they are issued an AYSO ID #.)

3. Next go to AYSOU on the home page to take SafeHaven Training. Enter your name and AYSO ID number and log-in. Scroll down and you'll see a "Start Now" button for SafeHaven training on the lower left.

4. Click Course MT02 - AYSO's Safe Haven (60-70 minute course) with video and questions. Concussion Awareness  Once you finish the courses, it will be automatically recorded on your AYSO volunteer record and will be good for the year.

4.On the same website AYSOU, you can also take these classes depending upon the age group you plan to coach:
Course C002 - U-6 Coach (30-40 minute course)
Course C003 - U-8 Coach (20-30 minute course)
Course C004 - U-10 Coach (30-40 minute course)
Ayso National dose required $25 back ground check fee that must be paid by you. The region will reimburse you the full $25 fee as long as you are an approved volunteer, pass the background check, and do the required above courses. Safe Haven, Concussion awareness, and age specific coach training.
THAT'S IT! Thank you for signing up! When we beginning making teams and assigning players to coaches, we'll be calling you to coordinate a coaches meeting.
